Rc airplanes ????????????? Hello I am a 17 year old that has been very intrested in flight so i want to buy a rc airplane ok so im looking at all these beginner planes and i had one when i was 12 i want to get someing not to slow like the tiger moth but not to fast so i was thinking of a piper cube is it reall that hard to fly ????

  4. i got one hobbyzone super cub, and a Cessna 745-I. i would recommend the Cessna. it is cheap, it is fast, it is easy to fly.

There are some very Cub like trainers available. Scale Cubs are a little hard for a novice RC er, as they are short, and have a lot of adverse yaw, requiring lots of skilled coordinated rudder input to get them to turn. It’s easy if you are riding in it. With an RC you have to learn orient the aircraft, guess at the airspeed, and still control all 3 axis. Check with a reputable hobby shop. They can help you with your choice if equipment, often saving you hundreds of dollars. They can tell you were the local clubs are and which ones have programs to help new flyers. Again saving you hundreds of dollars. Some people do OK with RC simulators. Check the Tower Hobbies site, also Horizon Hobby. Horizon has several really good flying entry level airplanes. It just takes time, practice and money.

A piper cube is extremely hard to fly unless you are a member of the Borg Collective. I would suggest that you start off with a piper sphere or a piper cone. The aerodynamics are a little better.

  7. Techwing says:

Real Piper Cubs are well known for being quite easy to fly. I don’t know about the RC version, though.

I got my instrument in a multi. Can I use its privileges in a single? I got my airman certificates/ratings in the following order: 1) Private Pilot ASEL (in a Cessna C172SP Nav III Skyhawk) 2) AMEL (to Private Pilot PTS in a Piper PA44 Seminole) 3) Instrument Airplane (All Instrument training was done in a Diamond DA42L Twinstar, a light twin) At current time, am I allowed to exercise the privileges of my instrument airplane rating in a single-engine aircraft such as a C172SP Nav III or do I need to go through a proficiency check of sorts for it? Thanks in advance to all who are able to advise =). CORRECTION: For the first half of my instrument training, I was trained in a PA44 and then transitioned into a DA42L, which was the aircraft that I passed my checkride in =).

  11. Rob G says:

Yes. The rating is “Instrument Airplane”, not “Instrument Airplane Multi-Engine Land”. I know lots of pilots that got their instrument ratings in a twin. The only stipulation is that if you were to have gotten it in a single that in order to use it in a twin, you’d have to demonstrate a single-engine ILS approach to an examiner, but that doesn’t apply in your situation. Now of course, being legal does not always mean you are safe. If you feel like you need a few hours with a CFI, in that C172, in order to be a safe then do so. Single pilot IFR is hard especially as a new instrument pilot. Make sure you are 100% comfortable with the plane you will be flying.

  12. skyking says:

Short answer yes, but a check out ride when making the transition is always a good idea.

  17. Is Nitroplanes a good site to order from? I have heard that they have bad CS but I don’t worry about that right now. Is their airplanes good quality? Why is their price lower than others? Competition? Been looking at their Dynam Electric Brushless 4-Ch Super J3 Piper Cub 42″ Remote Control RC Plane RTF 2.4 ghz. Any recommendations or comments?

Read the reviews from customers on complaintsboard.com. You are correct; the customer service is substandard. There were also some complaints about the products received. The site opened in 2005. That is a good sign. The server is in Australia. The registration page hides its ownership. That is never a good sign. Check out who.is (they give website information).
